There is only option for merging layers - Merge visible. It is useful if supports "Merge selected layers"

Would be useful, but at the moment we can only select one layer at a time. I think at some point I will make it possible to select several of them.

Yes. Only one layer can be selected at a time at the moment :) That's why I frustrated when I tried to implement by myself.

I think this could be the main goal for the 0.11 release. I would like to be able to pick layers and move them around without having to go in the layers menu. This requires some important changes so it might take some time before I can release that.
