Why using a server side script? #1

Hello,

Your project is cute and made me smile. But I don't understand why you using a php script on a server instead of doing everything on your laptop with the python script (or PHP in cli)?

Well I have to use a network to figure out the geolocation of my ip address anyway. So I figured why not run it at a webserver instead of doing it as a python script.

My question is the opposite. If the bulk of work is done in PHP and a cron job calls the Python script, why need python at all, couldn't the cron job call a PHP script instead?

Cron job could totally do it. But I'm running windows as my main operating system...

Yeah me too, but doesn't windows have something similar, I read that it does I just haven't used whatever it was

On Windows you have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Task_Scheduler, it's easy to configure.
