What do you recommend we do about Linode? See previous communication below via emails:

HI Cody,
I like all the options below. We are not close to launching PB...but do need to test your API stuff. You should've seen an email today asking you and PB to work together for that project. If all goes well, then we can move forward with the Linode upgrade after launching the responsive site this weekend.
Keep me posted.
Best, Robyn

Yeah. Way back when, we had talked about cutting over to Heroku for hosting.
That's still an option, but it's not nearly as simple as upgrading Linode, so I'm going to keep that on the shelf for now.
So, let's plan an upgrade for Linode, but we have time now that I cleared out a bunch of files.
Here's what I recommend: 1) Get the new site up and running this Friday/Saturday 2) Turn attention back to Property Base 3) Depending on how close we are to launching that either a) Go forward with the Linode upgrade if it's awhiles out b) Wait till after PB integration is live, if we're close.
I just don't want to do a system upgrade with other moving parts around it.

OK. So basically the situation is that they don't have the plan anymore nor do they offer the type of hardware we're on.
BUT - they have a free upgrade to their new hardware/plan that will give us the storage we need.
BUT - we can't take advantage of that until we upgrade the existing hardware we're on.
I know... It's very confusing to me, too.
So, the steps needed to be able to do this would be: 1) Upgrade existing hardware 2) Upgrade to new plan
Both are free, but my concern is that I have never done this before on linode, so there is a possibility that it may not go as smoothly as they claim and there is extended down time.
With that caveat, how would you like me to proceed?
HOLD until SEPTEMBER (slowest web traffic month)
Thank you for contacting Linode Support.
To clarify, your older Linodes are actually on a different plan entirely than our current offerings. This is because we regularly upgrade our services, and in doing so, offer free upgrades to higher tiered plans.
What you currently pay can instead double your RAM count and move you to SSD storage. If you wish to change to our new plan equivalent in resources to your current one, you would need to apply the free upgrade to the new generation plan, and then resize the Linode down.
As these new systems are not simply price changes from the old systems, we cannot simply alter your pricing. Your old Linode plan was a unique set of resources. The new systems are structured differently, and are not analogous to the old pricing structures. You are welcome to apply your free upgrade at any time from the Linode Dashboard by clicking the "Upgrade Available" link on the bottom of the right margin. Once the upgrade has taken place, you would then be able to "Resize" the Linode from the Linode Dashboard.
More information about the new plans can be found here on our blog where they are explained in much greater detail:
https://blog.linode.com/2014/04/17/linode-cloud-ssds-double-ram-much-more/
Please also be aware that you do not need to reinstall to swap kernels, if you need to upgrade to a 64-bit kernel prior to accepting the upgrade.
https://www.linode.com/docs/migrate-to-linode/disk-images/switching-to-a-64bit-kernel
Please feel free to contact us at any time with further questions or concerns you may have.
Due to the recent DDOS attack, they have asked to reset our Linode password. I will do that shortly. Do I need to reset our Refinery log-in passwords?

Awesome. And nope. No need on the password

@johnsisland - I was going to start tackling this, but I think we should make a larger decision on Linode if you're unhappy with it.
My recommendation without consideration to time or budget would be finally moving this to Heroku - however - that would require some discussion.
If you'd rather me just move forward with the Linode upgrade, I can do that, though.
I would like to know what the Heroku option entails: backup/redundant server? 24/7 help? Costs? please advise. I'm open to what's best to keep the website up and running.

Ok good information here. I'll review and discuss at tomorrow's call. In your opinion, is it worth spending the $200? My only concern is if you are ever out of the equation, I can't get help with Heroku. I don't like having options. I've done this route before and it's impossible to rely soly on you when you have a life outside the work day.

Heroku is in multiple zones - for free - across the globe. So the chances of a prolonged outage occurring are significantly less than linode. 24/7 help would fall to us, Gunner - as it's completely self managed Costs would be about $200 / month Timeline: What I would recommend is to bump Gunner's monthly back to $2k / month until we have transitioned completely off linode. At most, that would be 2 months and it would allow me to bring another engineer on specifically to handle that task. This would allow us to move the environment while not slowing down regular develoment — Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub https://github.com/gunnertech/jire2/issues/144#issuecomment-181937680.
Honestly, you don't really get any help from Linode right now - other than there is a warm body who will take your call / reply to your email.
The only thing they can ACTUALLY do is 1) Restart the app (which heroku does automatically if that will fix the problem) 2) Tell you if Linode is down, which Heroku automatically has here: https://status.heroku.com/

Sorry. Missed that second part.
I think it's definitely worth $200 / month. Heroku, beyond being more stable, is much easier to use than linode and is a completely "managed" environnment, meaning subsequent developers need to know nothing about how the environment works.
