Screen shot showing the Homepage slideshow showing the white photo box before the slide transitions to the left...
Status?
Same. Back logged.
I did look at this a bit when you first assigned it to me and I'm not sure there is an easy fix. Other than maybe completely tearing it down and starting from scratch which would obviously not be desirable as we would then have multiple codes for slideshows - one of which was written from scratch.

This website uses RoR. Here's their homepage slideshow. I'd be happy with this: http://www.luxuryrealestate.com/ https://rentals.johnsislandrealestate.com/
@johnsisland Quick update on this one - we discussed removing the three photos and making one larger photo.
Is that still what we want to do?
Also, as to video, that's a no-go without significant changes to the way the sliders (and refinery) work
Per our call, we'll contact you if we decide to run a video in the home page's main slideshow.
As for fixing the transition of the home page slideshow, we still dislike the flashing that occurs of a white area in between photos. We desire the effect of the rental home page slideshow, even if it means we have to go down to 1 photo. We discussed making the home page slideshow dimensions taller/bigger (similar to Rental) but I think we should keep the arrows on the left/right sides of each image so a visitor knows to look at more images. thoughts?
@johnsisland sounds good to me
@johnsisland I have new code that changes the slide show to how we want it.
Do you want me to deploy it so you can see?
I can easily roll it back if you don't like it.
Can't we use the staging site?
We haven't had a staging site in about a year. Ever since I had to shit it down because we were having space limitations on linode.

I like it.
Let's not forget about the staging site. You (and I) were adamant that we have one, and paid to develop it, so let's review this. Will you open a ticket? On a side note regarding space on Heroku, I've noticed slower page loading times than before Heroku when you first visit a page or new listing. We've gone over this before and you showed me speed times, but it does take a while for a listing detail page to load initally more than I would like. Let's review this together again.

Deploying now.
Yep. The average load time is still down by about a second and a half, which is incredibly significant. And you're right, the first page load - which will usually be you since you're looking at new changes - will be slower than the first page view from linode due to the way Refinery manages images.
It's not really bad how Refinery manages images, it just is a software design choice - it wasn't really made to work with CDN-hosted images.
I believe newer versions of Refinery address this, but require upgrading to Rails 4, which would be at least a month-long project
Seems "old code" or old versions of something with our website keep coming up. I thought we had worked together over the years to update all of this and to keep pushing ahead?
I'd like for you to help us manage our website, so please make suggestions as needed.
Well, that's kinda what I'm saying. Refinery was made as a choice before "cloud computing" was really a thing, so it assumes images are hosted locally (and not on a CDN, which is what best practices say they should be). I don't see any problems with the load times - which for our users, is much better.
If I thought it was a problem, I would say we need to upgrade refinery, but in my opinion, there isn't a problem that warrants that much time and effort.

@johnsisland and for what it's worth, the real estate site is about 25-35% faster than the rental site. The home page might even be closer to 40% faster than the rental homepage.
Ok thanks. Just keep that in mind as we move ahead. It bothers me more probably than most.
Ok great! I'll keep that stat close by when needed :}
We'd like to improve the way the home page slideshow transitions between images. It flashes to a white photo box, with the old photo now grayed out slightly, then slides to the left. Is there a way to avoid this white photo box process, and just let that photo remain (grayed out when ready to transition), then slide left?
Also, Bob wants to know if our homepage slideshow (or possibly any listing slideshow) can run a video clip instead of a photo as the main image? See example here: http://www.sirbahamas.com/eng
