old API.

When will it finally be possible to restrict to countries???
Right now the API is useless for everyone not living in the US. I don't
understand
how such an important feature can still be missing... It's like building a car
without the engine!

Google search API is useless without this in any country but the US...
Makes the whole API a bit of a pointless joke really.

There is another Issue number for this same problem:

I would like to implement a news bar that prints Belgian news in the Dutch
language
populated by sources that news.google.be uses. Although I managed to change the
language to Dutch by using &hl=nl in the api include, this typically draws from
Dutch
news sources instead of Belgian ones.
Also it would be great to draw from a topic instead of using a keyword in the
executelist, e.g. news.google.be displays sports using &topic=s - is there an
equivalent for the news bar so that it draws from articles
in a google news topic?

Please add this feature ASAP - the API is pretty much useless to me as a UK
based
company if the only results being shown are targeted to the US!

Re: jeroenv3's desire to find Belgian news in the Dutch language
If you're willing to tweak the gsnewsbar code, you can accomplish this. All
you have
to do is find the block where the NewsSearch object is initialized and use the
setRestriction method to add a geo restriction. It's documented in the Class
Reference.

Please add it. Required for .co.uk data - as currently data is .com. Google are
given credit for data from API and it looks like Google don't know what they
are
doing, from an end user point of view!

I fixed it the following ways:
When using a news bar with the wizard, load the search api thusly:
http://www.google.com/uds/api?file=uds.js&v=1.0&source=uds-nbw&hl=nl&ned=be
hl=nl is the language (nl being netherlands, dutch), ned=be is the news edition
(be=belgian), so
http://www.google.com/uds/api?file=uds.js&v=1.0&source=uds-nbw&hl=fr&ned=be
would call up French language news in Belgium
http://www.google.com/uds/api?file=uds.js&v=1.0&source=uds-nbw&hl=de&ned=de
would be German news search
For the regular search api you can use the language variable in the load
function:
google.load('search', '1.0', {"language" : "nl_BE"});
Use the ISO639 language code.
This should get you going in almost all cases.

This feature would be very-very important. My clients do not understand why
regular
google.hu SERP and Search API results are so different.
I tried to set gl and hl parameters explicitly but did not affect. Then I
created a
CSE with the appropriate local parameter and added its id via the cx parameter,
but
it also did not work. I am very sad.
MSN Live and Yahoo search APIs are able to handle local parameters correctly.
Why
Google Search API do not support local searches?
Otherwise your Search API is great.
Best regards,

Actually, the ability to specify a localized version of Google (e.g.,
google.co.uk)
was introduced a few of weeks ago. Check out the blog announcement:
http://googleajaxsearchapi.blogspot.com/2009/10/web-search-in-your-country.html
Also note that this bug has been marked a dup of bug 78, which has been deemed
fixed
by this introduction.

Essential feature - for any location in the world! What use knowing that
someone the other side of the globe has a commodity that you need tomorrow?
It used to be there. "Enhancement" has removed it.
I hate all that "quantum vibration crystal" semi-religious junk we get from the
USA.
I'll see if the other search engines do better, and report back if I can make a
recommendation.
