Romanization for the google-translation-api #478

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
The feature to watch the romanization when translate e.g. to the russian
language (or chinese, ...) is a very handy feature to "learn" how to spell it.

I really would appreciate it if it is considered to include this feature with
the translation-api. The sooner the better.

The romanization feature is used in some other Google services, for example,
Google Sites. Pages with non-English title will have its "friendly" URL
romanized.

Would be nice if there was an API that can take a text and return the
romanization of it, both with tone marks like "K̄ĥxmūl" and URL-friendly
version like "Khxmul". Also, including these romanization in Translation API
results would be great.

Need this as I do a lot of translating of vocabulary lists. It is very annoying
to have to copy and paste the pinyins, it would be nice to have the API support
for chinese romanization.

please add this as an option to params when calling google translate api. this
would be a great feature for all languages using not latin chars.

Yes, please. This would be very handy. It's a surprise that this is not part of
Google Transliterate! Actually, what would be perfect for me is the inverse
phonetic writing, if that's possible at all given the model you have.

This feature is the most handy and more important than even characters

I'd also like to see this incorporated feature into the GoogleTranslate
function within Google Sheets.

Please make the romanization or Pinyin available to the google translate api. I
work for a national language center and this would be of tremendous help for
building our open language resources.

I just have made minor changes to goslate (an unofficial API for google
translator) to made it able to get the romanised translation, and named it
goslater. I hope google give us this funcionality in the future, but for now,
you can download goslater here:

https://sites.google.com/site/javialamo/python/mis-programas/modulos/goslater

https://github.com/javialamo/goslater

Hope it helps
