Only SOME square chunks of the terrain? o_O Does switching "terrain optimization" option on/off make any difference?
It was me being forgetful: I had baked occlusion and forgot to clear it after I changed the level geometry.
I spoke too fast. clearing occlusion didn't fix it
now here is the odd thing: see how bright yellow the scene looks in the scene view? that's the same scen as what you see properly lit in the preview. when i clear the lightmap it turns back to being normal (but baked) then if i launch preview again immediately the scene turns all yellow do you know what could cause such yellowness?
Do you, by any chance, have "Draw Instanced" enabled on terrain? If it's so, does it work if you turn it off?

I have no idea then. Recently had a similar problem with one user's URP project, and the root cause was "Draw instanced". My scenes seem to bake. Can you send me any package/project where I can reproduce it?
