At the moment, the indices directory is not writable, particularly when using gluster. Instead, the indices should be bundled with the archive, with symlinks included to the original index folder. The easiest way to achieve this, is to make the indices archive a zipped list of symlinks when using gluster, with the loc files bundled with it. Gluster would be mounted as a third mount. When not using Gluster, the indices zip would include the loc files + the index data.
