Skills you have obtained:
Prior to taking APCSP I had limited knowledge of coding. During the summer, I learned some Python through my internship. I learned how to use GitHub and Jupyter notebooks but my learning was further solidified through taking this class. In this class, I strengthened my knowledge on Python and learned Javascript, which I had not known before. During my internship, I had worked with a mentor but by myself. In APCSP, I was able to work with peers on the same level as me to achieve the same purpose. I learned the power of teamwork and leadership. In Trimester 2, I was the Scrum Master of my team, and I learned the importance of having a strong leader who is able to manage everyone's tasks to achieve a deadline. We all had varying levels of expertise on specific areas of our project in each of the groups I worked with in this class, but we were able to bring them all together to complete the project successfully. I believe that this program enabled me to learn technical skills, but more importantly, it enabled me to gain experience working in a team and receiving assistance from individuals around me.
Highs and lows from year:
Highs:
Setting up a blog site
Presenting our team's final projects at Night At The Museum and seeing the reactions of my classmates and other parents.
Seeing a resulting project after figuring out a hard coding problem
Locking Claire in the sound booth
Lows:
Coding late at night on Sundays
Being frustrated that my code would not work
Future plans with CompSci:
I plan on taking APCSA next year. During the summer, I have a coding internship at UCSD doing bioinformatics analysis. I am also planning on learning some coding for the robotics team I'm a part of.
Future plans in Education/Career:
In the future, I hope to major in bioinformatics. I hope to go to a four-year university after high school to major in something related to computation because I believe coding will always be useful in the future, even if I find other passions. If I suddenly decide that I really don't like biology, I'll probably pursue data science in college.
Other, you pick:
Hi Mr. Mort. This class was honestly my favorite class because of the people I met. I am very grateful for the new friendships I created. I also found that I'm not bad at coding and I found that every problem in my code that I solved became a new victory. I'm looking forward to taking CSA next year and having a great time as well!
