The equivalence class part might not actually be useful. Do you have an ablation?
May just be a storytelling issue. Rather than say “we merge the operators” which conveys that you get an operator as the result, maybe say we're collecting operators of the same "effects" for the purposes of backwards reasoning (or something to that effect)
