Determine License #1

Thank you for your wonderful work.

I consider these image files to be treated as your independent (= not part of stat.ink) works of art. In order to handle this work correctly, we need to discuss licensing.

  1. The basic premise being, you may at any time license others to do so in a manner other than that set forth herein. However, if you accept the contributions of others, you may be influenced by their intentions.

  2. Determine the license for use by third parties.

    • You can either allow this work to be used by no one else, or you can grant permission for someone else to use it at will.
If you allow someone else to use it, it can be an existing license or a license you define independently. An example of the first is the Creative Commons license. An example of the later is the freedom to write text or simply "contact me".
    • Personally, I recommend choosing from Creative Commons. It would be good to consider "CC BY-NC" as a basis. However, CC-0 (public domain) is not recommended. Due to the aspect that it is essentially a derivative of Nintendo's copyrighted work.
  3. Determine license to stat.ink

    • If your choice is CC BY, CC BY-NC, CC BY-ND, CC BY-NC-ND or equivalent, no special provisions are required. stat.ink may use the work in accordance with the license.
    • For other licenses, CC including SA, or licenses that inherently prohibit use, I would want special permission to use them on stat.ink. It can be simply the message, "By special permission, stat.ink is able to use this work".

Whether or not stat.ink is singled out, it may not legally use the copyrighted works of others without explicit permission.
I understand that I am being cumbersome about this kind of legal treatment, but please bear with me.

The easiest way is the following steps:

  1. Review the contents of https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.en
  2. If you feel this is acceptable license, you decide to make it available to everyone under the license.
  3. Create the following content with the file name LICENSE:

    Copyright (C) 2023 by <your name>

This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. To view a copy of this license, visit https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode

Thank you for pointing this out! I have added this file. Please let me know if there's anything else you may need as I continue to work on these images.
