Why cannot hackerspace be open for 12 hours? #28

Ask yourself why hackerspace SG is closed except the time when ppl request to drop by so one of you need to be available so that he/she can open it to let that person in. Why? Cannot be open for 12 hours? So that the public can drop in anytime. Why the public need to message icedwater or valentine privately to inform them everytime they want to drop in by?

If it goes on like that, the public loses interest to drop in by if need to message to inform them everytime they want to drop in by.

The space is self-managed. We don't have full-time hire to manage the space, unlike public areas like public libraries, cafes, or community centers. The space contains tools and other equipment that may require some training or experience. Additionally, much of the equipment are personal property of members who loan them to the space. As a blanket rule, we require the presence of member(s) when guests are around for safety and custodial reasons.

There was a time when there are members who would do their work out from HackerspaceSG all day and have no issues to host drop-in visitors at any time of the day. Time changes, the priorities of members change, and now we don't have members working out from HSG 9-5 consistently.

HSG is a private club that tries to open itself to the public as much as possible, with consideration to the availability of individual members. The arrangement now, though may seem lacking, is what we can do presently.

Oh well, I think hackerspacesg should not expect new members since there is lack of arrangement now. It's unfair to new or future members who pay subscriptions. Wait a min, what are new members supposed to do?

Borrow books from our library - how long is the due?

Host community meetups, workshops, and other events at the space - what kind of events?

you mean members are given access keys to access the space?

those who are interested are encouraged to contact an existing member anyway, that was the case even when there were drop in visitors.

details of what members can do in the space are available on the website.
