Create a Guide/Template: Creating Eco-system mapping for topic area of project #73

Open ExperimentsInHonesty opened 3 years ago

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 3 years ago

Overview

We need to create a guide to making eco-system research for projects so that we can understand who is already in the space and what they are doing.

Action Items

The phases in the guide-making process are listed below. Each phase displayed in blue is linked to a wiki page with instructions on how to complete that phase. Open the wiki page in a new tab, copy the instructions for each part into the section labeled 'Tasks' at the bottom of this issue, and complete each task listed.

Projects to Check

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

I reached out to @mrao2 and he added me to the slack for the project. I also asked him to send any documentation he has and he emailed them to me.

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty Do you have any of the other examples listed in the action items? Or do they not have an eco system yet?

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

Olivia suggested I speak with @sayalikotkar to see if there is an ecosystem map currently for the Climate Project. Hi Sayali, let me know if you have an ecosystem map for the climate project! Thanks!

Olivia-Chiong commented 3 years ago

@sharonethomas Bonnie would like to pair you with a RX researcher so you can schedule a UX interview with Jenny and learn about her process of eco-mapping. It would be good if @sayalikotkar and @ag2463 can sit in on this interview so they can learn how to do it on their projects as well.

Let me know if this is clear or please reach out for clarification if you need it.

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong it's clear, thank you!

sayalikotkar commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong sounds good, thank you! @sharonethomas please let me know when you're planning to meet with Jenny, I'd like to join. Thanks!

ag2463 commented 3 years ago

@sharonethomas @sayalikotkar were you able to have a meeting with Jenny? If so could I set up a time with one of you to go over what you learned? If it hasnt happened yet, can I be added to the meeting. Thanks!

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@ag2463 we have not had the meeting yet. I will be working with @smgmode to come up with questions on what to ask Jenny and then we will have the meeting. cc @sayalikotkar

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

I spoke with @smgmode and we said we would circle back next Wednesday or Thursday to have a chat.

Olivia-Chiong commented 3 years ago

@sharonethomas can you please update

Progress: Blocks: Availability: ETA:

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong

Progress: Had conversation with Stephanie and created a rough draft of the overview and questions to ask Blocks: No blocks. Just need what I have currently to be reviewed and any suggestions on how to make it better Availability: If this is my availability, I will be at the Tuesday PM meeting ETA:

Ecosystem Map Guide.docx

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong updated the guide with a screenshot. Ecosystem Map Guide.docx

Olivia-Chiong commented 3 years ago

@sharonethomas Jenny is leaving Food Oasis at the end of this month. I would suggest you quickly meet with her before the end of March. She has availability on Mon-Fri from 8 am to 9 am. Let me know when you would like me to book a time with her.

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong I can do this Friday March 3/19 at 8am PST (10 am CST) cc @sayalikotkar @ag2463

Olivia-Chiong commented 3 years ago

@sharonethomas I took a look at the guide and I don't think the questions you have listed there are specific enough to the Food Oasis mapping we had discussed. I think we need to have a meeting before you meet with Jenny. Please reach out on Slack to set this up.

Also can you please upload this into the Product Management Google Drive instead of having it here as a word doc?

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong That was the guide/questions list I put together with Stephanie on general questions you would ask for future ecosystems. I worked with @ExperimentsInHonesty yesterday to write the specific questions to ask Jenny! I have uploaded both into the Product Management Guides google drive. Ecosystem Map Guide Interview

General Ecosystem Map Guide Questions

sharonethomas commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong @ExperimentsInHonesty Just had my meeting with Jenny. I have the interview on the drive:

Ecosystem Map Guide Interview

Jenny recorded the meeting and said she will send it.

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 3 years ago

@sharonethomas sounds like the next step is interviewing the GreenEarthOS project. Are you able to attend their meeting time? We meet at 2:30pm PST on Thursdays.

Olivia-Chiong commented 3 years ago

Meeting recording uploaded here

ktjnyc commented 3 years ago

Resources provided in advance of the interview:

Slack me the email of who needs access to the google drive and I'll provide access.

Olivia-Chiong commented 3 years ago

@connie-yu-dotcom Please update the following

connie-yu-dotcom commented 3 years ago

@Olivia-Chiong Progress: I'm watching the video between Sharon and Stephanie Blocks: Are you facing any blockers? Being a mom and looking for work. Availability: 2 hours a week ETA: When do you think it will be completed? In 3 weeks possibly

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 2 years ago

@connie-yu-dotcom checking in with you. It looks like you did quite a bit of work on this so far. Will you be finishing it, or should we unassign. If we are unassigning you from it. Are there any other notes or updates you can provide which will help someone finish the issue.

connie-yu-dotcom commented 2 years ago

Hi Bonnie,

You can take me off the project. Thank you for allowing me to participate.

@ExperimentsInHonesty

Progress: I have gone through some of the files in "Documents created while working on this guide" like the Ecosystem Map Guide. the General Ecosystem Map Guide Questions and the Interview Document with Jenny from Food Oasis which I presume were used while finding resources and information from the Food Oasis team. Unfortunately, I haven't been granted access to some other documents (I'm adding links under my blockers so those can be sorted)

I still went on to add the Projects to check section here and I've successfully looked at the first two projects thoroughly. Found nothing for 100 Automations. But for 311 Data, I found a Market Analysis document that might count as Eco-system mapping (but I'm not entirely sure).

Blockers: There are still more documents per work previously done to go through and that'll take me some time. I have a number of questions that need to be clarified so I have more guidance.

While trying to get to the files for the meeting recording here and the graphics for the ecosystem]) I get an access denied response from the drive. image

Availability: 6 hours a week.

ETA: Difficult to estimate at the moment.

Pictures (if necessary): Just one access denied screenshot attached above.

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 2 years ago

@DMLROG I have added your email to the Food Oasis folder. You may encounter this again on other projects.

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty Thanks Bonnie! I can access the FOLA files now. But I'm still locked out of the meeting recording file here. I'm guessing that's stored somewhere else. Reaching out to the team on Slack so I hope that'll be sorted out soon.

Also never got a response to my question earlier about the CIimate Project, is that non-existent now? And like I asked, do you think I should keep going through the other projects for more material (even though action items suggest there might not be anything relevant in them) or just stick to Food Oasis?

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 2 years ago

@DMLROG I have added you as a viewer to the video. Let me know if that works.

You said

Q2. There's a Climate Project listed, but I can't find it linked or mentioned anywhere else. Any pointers?

Please provide the context and the words mentioned so that I know what climate project you are talking about. A Screenshot of what you are you looking at would help.

You asked

do you think I should keep going through the other projects for more material (even though action items suggest there might not be anything relevant in them)

A: keep going through them. For instance, I agree that the Market Analysis document you found would count towards what we are looking for

for 311 Data, I found a Market Analysis document that might count as Eco-system mapping (but I'm not entirely sure).

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty Yes. Just checked, and I have access to the video now so I'll watch it and take my notes. Thanks!

As per, the Climate Project- it's mentioned right here under Resources inside this issue. Here's a screenshot

Screenshot 2022-05-04 143935

Thanks for your answer regarding looking through all projects for more material. I'll keep going through the rest of them then and see if I find anything relevant.

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

Hi @ExperimentsInHonesty @SheIsBukki I responded to this here and never got an answer on that.

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

As per Gathering Examples, I have found resources in the 100 Automations, 311 Data, Access the Data, BallotNav, and Civic Tech Jobs projects and I'm still checking through other projects.

I found 3 files in the BOP (Brigade Organizers Playbook) project but I can't find the slack to even request access from whoever is in charge. Looking like I might have to join the codeforamerica slack? Can you assist with this please? @ExperimentsInHonesty

These are the links to the files-

My progress on Gathering examples can be seen under "Projects to Check" and "Resources" (I've attached a screenshot)

image

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty @SheIsBukki
I've continued looking through resources and found more files (that I'll need access to). I found Comparative Analysis Document under the Data Science Projects and PSG Research Report under Expunge-Assist (formerly known as Record Clearance)

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 2 years ago

I have cleaned up the issue so that the items found are only listed under the projects instead of in a second place. The climate project that was being referenced was GreenEarthOS

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty I've seen the edits you made to the issue. Thank you very much, especially with Food Oasis- it's so much clearer now after you did that. GreenEarthOS project is one of the projects I'm looking into next so I'll get to it soon. Still waiting on access to the files I found in the Data Science and Expunge Assist projects. But I've reached out on Slack- so it shouldn't be long now.

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty I've made more progress and looked through the GreenEarthOS project. Found a couple of relevant files (one of them though, I'll be needing access to).

I also plan to look through the rest of the projects on the list and get that out of the way before doing the suggested interview (for GreenEarthOS) and also carefully canvas the FoodOasis project's already gathered material and resources.

I have access to the Expunge Assist file now but still waiting on access for a few more. At the moment, here's a list of resources that I found but will be needing access to-

BOP Competitor Analysis Template (need access) Comparative analysis detailed spreadsheet (need access)

Data Science Comparative Analysis Document (need access)

GreenEarthOS Updated C&C Analysis as of 12/15/21 GreenEarthOS C&C (need access)

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 2 years ago

@DMLROG I reviewed your access requests and provide info on what I did in your comment above.

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty Noted. I have been able to view the files now. Thank you. I've looked through 8 more projects since the last update and now I have just two more to touch on before looking through Food Oasis resources and doing the Interview for the GreenEarthOS project.

Again, as usual I'll need access to-

Lucky Parking

Open Community Survey

As a side note here- I'm sensing that the eventual Eco-system Mapping guide (when I'm finished) will be very similar to what has been done in for the Comparative/Competitive Analysis since most of my findings are in this existing format.

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

@ExperimentsInHonesty successfully looked through all Project Resources now. Up next is going through the Food Oasis thoroughly and then the GreenEarthOS project. Still waiting to be granted access to the earlier mentioned files. Also, would appreciate a response to the sidenote so I know your thoughts.

ExperimentsInHonesty commented 2 years ago

Hi @DMLROG

For the lucky parking Comparative Analysis, I have given you access to their most up-to-date document (there were two that were similar but spreadsheet 2 is the most current), but also I have taken the content from it and put it into the C&C template format we use at Hack for LA, because we are not recommending the format they used

I can access this, but It's not clear how to open it Competitive Analysis Deck - please provide the link to where you found this, so that I can follow up with the project lead.

Open Community Survey

Copy of Comparative Analysis for Usability Testing (need access) - I have added you to this. I am not sure if it adds anything new to your findings.

You said:

I understand that C&Cs are what you have found. But a C&C is not an ecosystem map. An ecosystem map is a map of how people operate in the space. The food Oasis map shows how they service customers and where the overlap is, as well as their primary value. Let's discuss once you have finished gathering all the examples.

DMLROG commented 2 years ago

Hi @ExperimentsInHonesty So sorry for the late response. I've been caught up with work lately and it's not looking like I'd still be able to devote time to this project. I wish to be taken off now so I'm not delaying progress with this issue. Here's to hoping the already gathered examples are clear enough for whoever takes this on after me. Thank you!
