User car make prediction model #170

Open gregpawin opened 3 years ago

gregpawin commented 3 years ago

Overview

Create page that uses parking citation data to predict whether or not a car is a luxury car or not on user input of citation types. We would either give them parking statistics about a car make of their choosing, or they can give us their parking citation types and we can predict their car make. This can be a new feature or can be spun off to another product.

Action items

Resources/Instructions

Use the citation-analysis branch to clean the data and create a model.

Being developed on personal repo. Will integrate if it seems interesting to PM/users.

Update: will integrate regex expressions from my own car make prediction repo.

Will keep in icebox for now since this would be a new feature with a lot of work involved.

@gregpawin Can you please tell us how a community activist would use this feature?

The idea for it is based off of some explorations that showed that certain car brands were linked to certain parking behavior. Luxury car drivers get different kinds of tickets than truck drivers. It was an idea to stir some interest in our site because people love reinforcing their stereotypes about certain types of car drivers. It's all based off the same dataset. I think it would be a good sideproject for a data scientist interested in it and could start off as a side-feature but could become it's own website. I think it's important to keep around interesting projects to attract data science volunteers.

@gregpawin If it was possible to predict whether the car make was a luxury car, how would that be particularly valuable?

I've read the whole thread now and I understand the context, thanks.

I think this feature would provide an interesting feature that provides insight to a person's personality. We could ask for a users' car make and give stats for their parking tickets or they could input their parking tickets types and we could predict their car. This can be some fun side feature or spin off into it's own site.
