Current status? #31

I am wondering about the current status of the foodfinder app? Is there more that needs to be done before it can be deployed? We have an event coming up and could sprint on this project if that would be helpful. Or help get it deployed?

Thanks, Andrew

andyanderson commented 10 years ago

Yes, there is more that needs to be done. We’ve had a few meets to work on it over the summer, but August has passed with no activity. I do want to continue to work on it, to enhance it and get it deployed. I was also talking with a student who had a similar idea and when I showed it to him he was very impressed.

My schedule is starting to cool down, perhaps we could have another code-in this Wednesday evening to work on it and put together a set of desired enhancements. Could be at Amherst College at 5 PM.

Actually this Wednesday it would need to be later for me, ≥ 7 PM. Could be at 5 this Monday.

I could do Wednesday at 7pm. We should compile a list of features to complete so it's clear what needs to be done.

a-pasquale commented 10 years ago

There will be people gathering at NERD Summit on Sunday, September 14th to work on projects from 9-5. It would be great to have some of you who worked on this over the summer there at the UMASS conference center to work on the food-finder then. More details about the weekend event which has workshops and talks on Friday and Saturday at http://nerdsummit.org

Maybe if you have a chance to compile a list of issues and features on Wednesday, that could focus the work on Sunday?

I cannot make it on Wednesday, but am planning to come on Sunday. It's a great idea to bring it there.

Has anyone heard from Dale or anyone else at the Food Bank? I wonder if anyone there is still tracking the project or still interested in it.

Would Monday at 5 (or later) work better for both Patrick and Trevor?

I have not heard recently from Dale or Vanessa, but they should both be getting these messages, as they are watchers:

Yes, Sunday sounds like a great plan. Monday is too short of notice unfortunately for me.

andyanderson commented 10 years ago

OK, then, Wednesday at 7 PM it is. I can set it up at Amherst College, Webster 102. Might have a student join us who has an interest in this project.

Hi folks,

Thanks so much for your persistence with this. My apologies for not weighing in on the conversation sooner - we've been swamped this summer! We are definitely still interested, though, and excited to see the final project. Is there anything I can do to provide more support/input?

Thanks again!

Hi, Dale,

Here’s the current list of issues:

https://github.com/hackforwesternmass/foodfinder/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue

You’ve written some of these, but if you take a look at the web site here:

http://fbwm-foodfinder.herokuapp.com

and play around with it, perhaps you’ll notice others that you’ll want to add to the list. It hasn’t changed much since the hackathon, though.

By the way, one thing for us to consider is eventually making this more generally useful, across the country. You’re probably in a network of food banks that would be interested in that, but standard data formatting would be required.

Primarily. Could spend time working on it, if you want.

I'd prefer to get a list of clear achievables so we can knock it out of the part Sunday when Trevor & folk are there. :)

Patrick and I met last night and cleaned up the to-do list and added a number of items to it. If you think anything else, please add it, and we should be ready to go on Sunday!
