@chruck are you still willing and able to do a community board / table at the Oct 29 HG Nights?
@avon61002 here's the thread for the community board / table.
As mentioned on the Slack, we could encourage people to put things on the board and give those people who participate a mention during one of the breaks.
I think it would be better to have one of the board / table organizers do the like 10 seconds each mention because it's like hearding cats when we open the floor to a bunch of people and someone starts rambling.
@bogdankharchenko asked if we wanted to use his real-time photo sharing tool that can show on a screen.
This was used at UpstatePHP and here's an example of the real-time stream based on attendee uploaded files] that uses GitHub or Google authentication.
We'll need one TV screen for the schedule and we have two rolling TVs, and one of them could be used for that.
I'll let you guys sort out the logistics, but we could put the TV next to the community board / table.
We're going to do the talks inside of OpenWorks again, since the socializing noise doesn't go well in the conference rooms when there is a talk. So, like we did last time, we could use the TVs and whiteboard(s) as a visual block between the round-table social area and the speaker / audience on the other side of the glass.
@chruck and @avon61002 Thoughts?
Adding @jhloman to the thead.
We have the rolling whiteboard and plenty of tables. You're welcome to use at least one of the rolling whiteboards.
We have dry erase markers with the various boards and a couple extras behind the community printer in OpenWorks along the white wall.
We have rolls of tape in the first upper kitchen drawer as you turn the corner into the kitchen.
Now, if Paul and Joey want to do some fancy interactive folk community board, then that's on you guys to figure out :)
We are planning to give you guys 2 or 3 minutes during the 7:20 to 7:30 break to mention anything related to what people shared on the board. So, I'm figuring someone can take an assessment of what's on the board and share a blurb about each thing that seems worth a mention to the crowd.
This could be the typical things posted in HG (events, meetups, local conferences, looking for a job or hiring). I don't think we've had anybody posting things that don't "fit" the spirit of HackGreenville, but in the event someone wants to promote their multi-level marketing side hustle, I'll leave it to you guys to figure it out.
HG typically promotes non-commercial initiatives, or at least something of interest to the community that's more than pure self-promotion.
For layout, it likely makes sense to put the whiteboard and table next to the TV in the round table area and partially shield the speaker (inside of OpenWorks) from the socializing (in the round table area). The TV in the round table area will have the day's schedule and we may have an extra rolling TV if you guys imagine a use for it.
See our earlier whiteboard issues for past notes and context.
