HackMD spell check language inconsistent with browser settings #176

Open linuxtim opened 4 years ago

linuxtim commented 4 years ago

Is this a hackmd.io issue?

What's the problem

Incorrect spell check language / no option to set spell check language for document

Current behaviour

My spell check language is defaulting to English (US), and there doesn't seem to be a way to change this (my browser is sending the Accept-Language: en-GB,en;q=0.5 in request headers).

Provide steps to reproduce:

  1. Set browser language preference to prefer a different language
  2. Type a string with a non en-US spelling e.g. color colour

Expected behaviour

Select a spell check dictionary based on users' browser preferences. Optionally allow the owner to set a document-wide preference.

Environment

I use HackMD on:

Desktop

TBH, I struggled to find where the spell checker is, it took me some time to find it as I was expecting to see it on the top toolbar not on the small status bar.

What is worse is that I see no option to add words to exclude, making it really annoying to use.

Hi guys, thanks for keeping this issue in track. Our current editor can't support browser built-in spellcheck, need to wait for the next generation editor supports. We will list this as known issue.

Hi, could I ask where the spellchecker is? Like could someone provide a screenshot? I cant seem to find it and I've been googling and scanning through issues for quite a while now.

Thanks.

@Brin-o finding the spell checker is the first challenge, indeed. Its the tiny check mark in the editor footer bar to the right. Screenshot from 2022-01-27 14-27-04

The option to change to another language than (US) English would be highly appreciated!

I'd also really appreciate an option to change to another language, or for the editor to respect the browser default.
