There are bears in SFU. Clearly unsafe

baraaorabi commented 4 years ago

But on a serious note, I'm down with SFU if there is a majority for it and Ben can get a us a room with video conferencing

If it's in sfu can we have it on monday 7 pm instead? It had the same # of votes

scatcher125 commented 4 years ago

I guess my question is - will anyone be negatively impacted if the mtg is 7 pm on monday?

If not, then let's have the meeting on monday. I just may not be able to make it to sfu on thursday since i take the bus to the ferries from bway/cambie to make it home to vic at a reasonable time.

jenjaelin commented 4 years ago

It slipped my mind to vote but I can do Thursday if remote, but not Monday

Alright, let's keep thursday then!

I've booked TASC-1, Room 9408 @SFU with videoconferencing for Aug 15th 6pm. I'll setup hangouts (unless Skype is preferred?) You don't need a key to enter the building, I'll be at the room. (+1 7788992971)

If you haven't been to SFU, transit route for Thu 6pm from VPC: https://goo.gl/maps/vUYfKEkWjqiNhLPz9 Building info: https://www.sfu.ca/fs/campus-maps/directory-of-buildings/technology---science-complex-11.html If you walk down from Transit Exchange (Starbucks, last stop of all bus routes), enter Tasc-1 eastern staircase to 9th floor, the room will be on your right hand side.

Finding the room (top floor, room at the eastern end of the building): tasc1

baraaorabi commented 4 years ago

Ok, see you all at SFU on Thur!

jenjaelin commented 4 years ago

Adding this for context, Liangliang could use a co-lead

Hi Ben,

Thank you for letting me know that you can try to find a co-lead. I will chat with my new PhD student, Grace, on Skype tomorrow afternoon. I think she can act as the co-lead. But to be safe, if you could match me up with a co-lead in addition to Grace, that would be great.

I hope the co-lead is familiar with Bayesian statistics, Markov chain Monte Carlo, and Java/R/Python programming. Ideal backgrounds would be statistics, computer science, or computational biology. Experience with using MrBayes or BEAST would be a plus. The co-lead will help me with preparing and testing the materials for HackSeq to make sure the workload is feasible and the team is productive in the three days. Of course, the co-lead should be able to attend the three day HackSeq in person and be comfortable with actively interacting with the team members.

Thanks, Liangliang

scatcher125 commented 4 years ago

I'll be skyping in at 6 as well! :)

oganm commented 4 years ago

Oh dear. Thought we were on 7 for some reason

Question: should I put up the Participant form draft here or on the private repo?

baraaorabi commented 4 years ago
