:+1: for this. If anything the StackOverflow questions should be compared using the various tags for scientific python packages against R.
If you can provide me a comprehensive list of scientific/data python tags, I'd be happy to use them.
I guess you might also be able to use the same idea for github searches - those tags correspond pretty closely to the python library names, right?
I was about to just make a list here, but would you like a certain format in a pull request?
My main issue with both absolute and relative measures is that it's comparing a general programming language used also for web dev and many things with a statistical language used almost only for that.
I'd compare Python SciPy, matplotlib, pandas, sympy, numpy, scikit (esp. scikit-learn) vs. R.
