easy to find equations in TeX source, probably. i.e. just look for \begin{align} environments, and all variants. \[, \begin{align*} etc. maybe pandoc can even help here? it can be pretty lossy at first, because there would be so many papers to look at. the real challenge would be indexing the papers and storing the info somewhere. could just start with a very small subset.
