i guess really there are a couple of different styles.
the voronoi would be one; but the circular one like in the current logo would be different.
i wasn't aware of this site - http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Voronoi_diagram
to be completed here - https://github.com/hahayes/tie-dyenator
having voronoi's in hand it's now necessary to think about how to actually do this 'bleeding' business.
i don't think "bleeding" is the right term, though.
more inspiration - https://www.flickr.com/photos/quasimondo/sets/72157632200834828
apparently done by this guy - http://mario-klingemann.tumblr.com/ http://incubator.quasimondo.com/
using d3.js - http://d3js.org/
apparently latin squares can also be used to get cool related things
see - http://www.isama.org/hyperseeing/ in particular - http://www.isama.org/hyperseeing/08/08-d.pdf (last of the 2008 issues), first article.
it amuses me a lot that maybe large latin squares are hard to generate, or something, and then this style of clothing could be "hard" to make in some very technical sense.
this t-shirt was actually NP-hard to print, so yeah, it'll be $35.
"oh, that one? man that's PSPACE-hard, forget about it."
oh man, imagine doing the latin square thing but in 3 dimensions somehow!!
and then there's this - http://www.emba.uvm.edu/~jdinitz/hcd.html
this would be interesting and possible.
you'd start with something; maybe say a voronoi diagram with a few colours, and then 'bleed' the edges in some way.
