visualisation of combinatorial designs #7

further to the tie-dye thread #4, we could attempt to generate bitmaps or javascripty things of a wide range of so-called "combinatorial designs" - http://www.emba.uvm.edu/%7Ejdinitz/hcd.html

there doesn't seem to be much out there on this at the moment.

there's this - http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/VISUAL.1994.346323 but it's quite old, and a very quick glance at the paper suggests it's not that nice.

here's a video describing anim3d - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIOrizawnsc

it's not even possible to get the software.

i think the best approach is to grab the combinatorial designs book from the library and then just build a general-purpose 'matrix visualisation' thing, maybe?

or at least, that's one step.

another idea - could some of the combinatorial designs be used to generate drumbeats and baselines? related to #6
