Enhancement: may Android Linux be supported ?

It seems that chip industry had reached the state, where inexpensive 
internet+media players are feasible.

and many more coming.

Since Android is based on Linux in its core, maybe the player can be expanded 
to work with those media players as well ?

Watching sport performances in realtime for free might be good use for media 
players!

What is required then from the player+hardware interaction:
1) to evaluate if hardware (CPU + network adapter) has enough power for P2P 
SopCast streaming.
2) compiling current Linux code for Android-Linux flavor.
3) implementing bridge from SopCast source into players' internal decoding 
library (GStreamer ? VLC ? Xine ? don't know)
4) making UI, as stand-alone app or as part of built-in player
5) integrating support for sop:// links from browser to players
5.1) implementing of SopCast embedding in web-page is probably of no interest 
for TV resolutions.
6) keeping bookmarks (favourite channels) locally, as bookmarks of browser or 
whatever. Inability of SopCast/Win32 to make bookmarks if anonymous is a 
serious misfeature as i feel.

I wonder if your project, already having experience with Linux, could achieve 
some items from that list.
Maybe using such players at home be of some interet to some of you personally.

I really like your ideas, but sp-sc (the binary used in sopcast player) is 
proprietary and only compiled for i386 and 64-bit platforms. I have no access 
to the source code for sp-sc otherwise I would love to implement your idea.

I do have some good news though. I am working on a new project tentatively 
called unity-player. As it name suggests the goal of the project is to bring 
all media (p2p, video, music, games, etc...) under one program. Initial 
versions of this player will be available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. I 
also plan to port versions for all the major cell/mobile phone OS's including 
Android. Projects similar to this already exist in various forms but this 
project aims to bridge the gap between open source and paid for app developers. 
A plugin system has already been thought out that will allow any pluging to use 
the open source player without risking copyright violations. I hope this brings 
visibility to the player and encourages development.

I am finishing up the sopcast plugin right now, but I also plan to develop 
plugins for all the open source p2p players as well. Of course if anyone cares 
to devote some time to reverse-engineering the proprietary p2p players 
(StreamTorrent, Sopcast, UUSee, etc...) I think they would make some good money 
selling the plugins and making them available for all supported systems. If you 
have any ideas please share, I think a program like this could be a game 
changer if supported by both the open source and proprietary communities.

As a side note, the hardware on most modern smart phones greatly out spec my 
old server which is more than capable of streaming from sopcast.

i guess the large part of local success of SopCast is that it is p2p (hence 
anyone can do it without needing strong server, both creating the stream and 
listing it in aggregator sites) and can be embedded into www page, at least for 
beginning.

will you be able to make so easy to use app, who knows.

If i remember, Kazaa/Skype authors already tried to make p2p video streaming, 
Vuze tried the same. To limited success.
I hope the developers of SopCast would be interested in this mid-tier expansion 
though...
