Do you have a timeline for this feature? We want to give a lecture about LaTeX 
and
inkscape - and tikz is the natural exchange format if one has to use pdflatex 
and
wants Latex fonts and symbols. But gradients (linear and radial) are pretty 
crucial
for good physical sketches...
