inkscape crashes with specific example

I have this svg file... which is pretty simple... 
an embedded background and two paths.. 

however exery time I try to export it I get a crash.

I have tried removing the picture and keeping only the paths.. the same.

to complicate the things even more if I rebuilt the svg starting from a default 
document the export seems to work.

Much simpler svg file from plantuml->dot->svg crashes inkscape.
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04  Inkscape 0.48.3.1 r9886 

inkscape2tikz fetched today.

Hopefully helps finding this bug.
