elm-app start giving error #604

Is this a bug report?

Yes

Environment

  1. node -v: v17.1.0
  2. npm -v: 8.1.3
  3. yarn --version (if you use Yarn): 1.22.17
  4. npm ls create-elm-app -g (if you haven’t ejected): /usr/local/lib └── create-elm-app@5.22.0

Then, specify:

  1. Operating system: Windows (WSL 2 Ubuntu)
  2. Browser and version (if relevant): Chrome Version 96.0.4664.45 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. elm-app start

Expected Behavior

Launch dev server.

Actual Behavior

Gives the above.

Fix

export NODE_OPTIONS=--openssl-legacy-provider

Quote from person who gave me the fix: "if they update to the latest version of webpack this issue goes away"

this issue is related to https://nodejs.org/en/blog/vulnerability/openssl-november-2022/ I belive

For powershell i was using: $env:NODE_OPTIONS="--openssl-legacy-provider"
