Dead Pi's #79

I had a working B Pi connected via USB power, removed the power and put the MoPi board on, then switched on the external power (8xAA NiMH) the LED went from blue to green and the power LED on the Pi came on. That's as far as it went. It had been working before. So I tried the same with a B+ Pi, same thing happened again. Nothing went pop, no smoke, no heat, just nothing. The regulators on the Pi board are giving out 3v3 and 1v8 and the polyfuses are all closed circuit.

On reflection, the only difference from the usual setup was having the HDMI plugged into a monitor.

Is that the reason both Pi's died? I know the USB is not supposed to be connected, but could the HDMI be supplying +5V to the Pi? (there was a warning about don't have system power connected when inserting the MoPi board, I assume the warning -> death of Pi)

Bah, never mind. It turned out to be a zapped SD card. From shutting down and removing the power, something must have happened to it. A few pints down The Eagle and a fresh SD card, with a new Jessie Raspbian, and all is well again :-)
