Latest from Jo on the repurposed version
Part | Number | Example | Unit price [NZD] | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|
Controller | 1 | Arduino Uno or similar | 40 | Cheap easy to use controller. should have enough I/O. would need a display screen and maybe buzzer |
Standard hospital pneumatic fittings | 2 | Air compressor fittings | 100 | |
Manual pressure regulator | 3 | LPG adjustable regulators (6"-18" W.C) | 30 | Standard LPG regulators work around the pressure range which we are working with (reducing ~5bar supply pressure down to ~40mbar inspritory pressure) |
Solenoid valve | 3 | Washing machine solenoids | 80 | Most of these solenoids are 230v. |
O2 concentration meter | 2 | Car o2 meter or electrochemical o2 meter | 100 | Car o2 meter may not be suitable due to it needing hot exhaust fumes to heat the sensor element properly. new ones have their own internal heater but this may not be enough on its own |
O2/air flow meter | 2 | Car inlet flow meter | 35 | Might be rated for to high a flow |
O2/air pressure sensor | 2 | Car fuel tank pressure sensor | 45 | Perfect range (-800 - +50 mbar) |
Inline HEPA filter | 1 | Standard fuel filter housing with HEPA filter material | 5 | Cheap common filter hoising. Can get the HEPA filter material in bulk or it is used in some vacuum cleaner filters |
Exhaust HEPA filter | 1 | Standard fuel filter housing with HEPA filter material | 5 | |

Regarding solenoid, might be better with automotive version. @racleave to check landy LPG solenoid.
System diagram:
This gas shutoff valve is $69 from burnsco...should be cheaper elsewhere but haven't found anything yet.
Landy uses this for fuel: and this (sorta) for gas:
Both about 15 quid ($50).
Would an EGR valve be useful?
$75 used, $900 new!
Jo and Ra had a talk yesterday and worked on a valve solution where either:
We thought about finding components in three grades: medical, cheap, repurposed. The repurposed option is where people take components from household items - e.g. washing machines.
Jo is looking into components. The parts list was:
