rather than operating over normal network the ui-broker-ventilator comms should run over a secure vpn. feasibility? complexity? fragility?

Certainly worth considering threat level, as consequences are obviously high.

No need to be more secure than current machines which have knobs on the front
the facility and it's networks are quite high trust environments, and possibly already secure
don't want it so secure that someone who should have control can't get it cause of OTT security
