Trying to lighten things up a bit. Looks better at Z12 but for some reason only exports at Z11
Gotta add admin boundaries for Detroit. Maybe figure out a way to dim the non-Detroit areas?
Making progress. Need to hide Canada. Apparently it's not a polygon.
Need to simplify highways. I wonder if cemeteries will add too much busyness.
I tried removing tertiary roads. Not sure it's better. Getting to a point where I need to do some test prints. Still haven't figured out Canada.
Tertiary returns
The border outlines were acting weird because of the opaque polygons, so I made them outlines and move them to the top.
Turns out hiding Windsor will be somewhat difficult. It's not a polygon :-(
There's still a lack of depth that earlier maps had. I'm going to try to play with highway outlines.
Hmm. Wondering if this gives too much primacy to highways.
OSM data with DGEI/ Bunge preferred streets reduced primacy of highways.
Softer version
I like it a lot! Really fixes the highway problem. Are the smaller streets dotted?
The outline around parks looks great.
Right, highways present, but not overbearing. Other streets are dotted:
line-width:1; line-color:#777; line-opacity:.25; line-dasharray: 2, 2, 2, 2; }
Can you share your stylesheet or send a pull request? I'd like to play with secondary roads a bit. More will be visible on a large printed map.
What size are you hoping to print at?
Instead of dotted lines I would just reduce width and transparency further for secondary streets
Final print size will be around 4ft x ?. Don't know if the 4ft will be the width or height. That's the max in one direction that FedEx can print on their black and white plotter (75 cents per square foot!)
