If you want to see a good example of a group of professionals who could (if they wanted) take advantage of what we are offering, try volokh.com. It's run by one of the foremost leading law professors and his colleagues. They often use excerpts from opinions, sometimes the laws themselves and do very thorough analysis. Techdirt.com is another although he mainly sticks to tech-based laws.

If we could offer the ability to embed certain content it would offer professionals who already have their own site a tool to use without having to give up their pageviews or ad revenue if they depend on it.

This is an interesting idea. Even better might be RSS fed snippets. So a user could have an RSS feed of stories and articles s/he contributed on a third party site like volokh.com, Techdirt, etc. I would suggest limiting this function to vetted users who provide added benefit to the community, like providing insightful answers, so it doesn't just devolve into a marketing ploy.

This could be incorporated into the participation incentives hamstar proposed in #8. I'm having trouble finding the relevant post on github, but jonliang (I think) suggested having a "Legal Fact of the Day" in the sidebar. We could provide a mechanism for users to vote on particularly interesting/useful stories, and the most highly voted of one day could be featured in the sidebar the next day.
