I must admit that I don't really understand why the underlying machine is stopped while the osd is open.
Does this really work reliably? From the CPUs point of view this would cause weird timings as the video circuitry needs to continue to run. I know Atari St software that would simply crash if e.g. hsync or vsync interrupts don't run in perfect synchronization to the CPU.
