Description
ONE World is a collectible NFT marketplace for real-world locations on planet Earth.
Context
By definition, a geospatial location is one-of-a-kind, complete with its own unique identifier such as a postal address and GPS coordinates.
Allowing users to “own” a small part of planet Earth is not exactly a new concept. Social platforms such as Foursquare’s Swarm relied on users “checking-in” to restaurants, businesses, and any notable location with the hope of becoming the “mayor” of that place. Yelp, to a certain extent also relies on location reviewers owning or becoming the expert on that location. ONE World relies on the same concept whereby, due to the scarcity of pre-minted locations on the platform, users will want to own and collect their favorite spots around the world just like any other collectible. Geospatial trading will be extremely competitive due to the fact that people often take pride in their hometowns, favorite venues, museums, streets, parks which will result in a very unique and exciting marketplace. Popular landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Great Wall of China, The Great Barrier Reef, Pyramids of Giza etc. will become highly sought-after.
Geospatial Asset On-Chain Metadata
Tradable geospatial assets will be pre-minted with a set of on-chain metadata to uniquely identify and to display in the marketplace. e.g:
The idea here is that the asset should be completely self-contained and unique. Images, unlike most NFT marketplaces, will be encoded on the block itself, instead of pointing to an image URL on a CDN. This will be mostly a UI and design challenge to create a simple and small art to represent each location. For example, using minimal pixel art similar to Cryptopunks.
Asset Minting Timeline
To create demand and buzz, assets should be minted and rolled out in phases. For example:
There really is no limit to what more could be minted. E.g. streets, intersections, and arbitrary locations. If it has geospatial coordinates, it can be traded.
Asset Trading and Bidding
Bidding against owned assets does not need to be rolled out from the get-go. But bidding will play a huge role in the success of the platform. Users who have missed out on the opportunity of owning their favorite city or spot in the world will be very determined to win it over.
