set current path for upload

Hello,

this is not an issue but a help request

Having way too much directories on my drive the directory list takes way too 
long to load, so I turned everything into a simple text field
I can get the name and folder automatically from rename and move functions.
But for the upload it always defaults the folder to ./ .

What happens to the $folder when using upload?
Can you give me the code that would make it stick?
