Website Design Suggestions and Content Flow #7

Open hallidude opened 11 years ago

There are a few design and content flow changes we can make to increase the responses on the website. I've listed them below.

  1. Fonts: The fonts on the top of the page for the text "Advanced" and "workshop" Need to be adjusted so that they can resize correctly on different screens. I've attached a screenshot of the same (Image 1)
  2. Social Media Buttons: The tweet button on top of the page is redundant. Users don't tend to click on that button if it's on top of the page. This button should come at the end of the workshop content. Along with the button there should be content like. Tweet about the workshop. Share on facebook feature can also be shared. *Facebook and twitter buttons for HasGeek networks (in the bio at the bottom of the page) should be side by side with adequate white spacing.
  3. Content Flow: The content flow needs to be so Heading -> 2 line Introduction -> Venue -> Ticket-> About Instructor-> Course Content -> Pre requisites -> Social Media Buttons -> Further contact & HasGeek Bio
  4. Call to action: The call to action button needs to be more prominent. Right now it is getting lost due to the light background. Another call to action button can be added in the tickets section to let the user continue on to buying the ticket.

1) Yes it was pending. I haven't checked and fixed page in different devices.

2) ok

3) give me a two line intro line

4) which button is call to action ? do yo mean "Register today" button?

hallidude commented 11 years ago

1) Cool. Let me know if you need help in testing. I have a nokia lumia with windows broswer and a netbook with a 11 inch screen size.

3) Haris will get back to you on that by end of day.

4) Yes. In this case call to action is 'Register Today'. That link Kiran shared has more examples and ideas.

3) Here is the line: "A three-day intensive hands-on workshop that dives deep into the Python internals, advanced techniques and best practices."

The website looks good! A few changes: 1.On the top the 'HasGeek presents' part is missing. It needs to be included 2.The HasGeek favicon needs to be included.

  1. "A three-day intensive hands-on workshop that dives deep into the Python internals, advanced techniques and best practices." The full stop needs to be removed from this text block. Anand feels that the text is a little strong here and we need to try the colour #3674a8. Do try that and see if it works.
  2. ."Hurry up! Limited seats only" section can be reworked. Around most call to action buttons on HasGeek we do not use such strong language. Instead we can remove the blue background and the text and make a strong call to action button like on the fifth elephant website. http://fifthelephant.in/2013/. The text will be "Register now!"
  3. The tweet button is currently on the course content section. Can it move to a separate section below that? It will help if a text is accompanied here. Ex: "Help us spread the word around. Tweet about the Advanced Python Workshop"
  4. Since the venue has not yet been decided it is best to move it below the fold. This can be done by moving the video up.
  5. In the Ticket price section we can have a 'Buy tickets' button. This helps the user go one step closer to buying tickets.
  6. Instead of "Reserve your seat Today!" the text should be "Register for Advanced Python Workshop". This is because Reserve your seat is a slightly dated marketing term.
  7. Please replace Anand's Bio as mentioned below: "Anand Chitipothu is a software consultant and trainer based in Bangalore. He is an active member of Indian Python community, coordinator of PyCon India 2012 and elected member of PSF. He is author of Python Primer, an interactive tutorial to learn Python in browser. He is co-author of web.py, a micro web framework in Python and currently works for Internet Archive." 10 Please do include his Lanyard profile along with Twitter Github and website. The link is http://lanyrd.com/profile/anandology/past/speaking/ .
  8. On firefox the alignment for the instructor part is off. It seems to work fine in chrome and safari.

1) I removed Hasgeek presents logo because i think it's not necessary and we are also not using this logo on gitworkshop website http://gitworkshop.hasgeek.com/ here and It also takes lots of space on mobile phone. Is it mandatory to use? 2) I have added hasgeek favicon 3) Have changed suggested color looks ok i think. 4) working on it 5) I think it's better to remove tweet button i just added it upon jitendra's suggestion. And we have also not user tweet buttnn in any other workshop page. http://gitworkshop.hasgeek.com/ , http://pigworkshop.fifthelephant.in/, http://cssworkshop.metarefresh.in/ 6) Done 7) Good idea. will do 8) Done 9) Done 10) Done 11) will check

Changes done locally. yet to upload.

Jamna, the logo indicates that this is an official HasGeek event and should be present in all websites including for git workshop. It can be made smaller for mobile.

jamna commented 11 years ago

@jace As i know we can only change css background images on different screen size using css images . Logo I'm using as a inline HTML tag. ok for now I'm adding existing logo back

jamna commented 11 years ago

I have pushed all changes , please check .

harisibrahimkv commented 11 years ago

@jamna The register button could have a color that blends well with the website. Consult @Praseetha-KR or @jace and sort it out.

Apart from that, the site looks fine. We'll be publicizing the site from tomorrow onwards.

jamna commented 11 years ago

@harisibrahimkv I wanted to make strong call to action button as @hallidude suggested here https://github.com/hasgeek/workshops/issues/7#issuecomment-17004117 (see point no.4 ) and current color of button is the same we have in sub headings and has geek logo.

@Praseetha-KR , @jace please suggest a good color to make "Call to button" strong as @hallidude has suggested. The other thing i can try is python blue color. let me know your thoughts

see current button here http://advancedpython.hasgeek.com/

jamna commented 11 years ago
