Orthographic projects gives a really interesting a crisp look - the only issue is the lack of depth perception, which makes controlling the ball difficult when moving in the z-axis.
It might be possible to help give perceptual hints that ensure depth is properly taken into account during hopper control, i.e. shadows on the ground and walls.
The over-the-shoulder camera controls currently in use are clunky, and likely won't have widespread appeal.
Look into an isometric camera, and create a simple example level.
