Systray Icons are not shown #97

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Starting korgac --icon korgac results in the systray icon shown as new
window in most cases. Sometimes it doesnt appear at all. The skype systray
icon is never shown in my installation, but closing the skype window,
doesnt lead to skype being terminated. Thus I assume that skypes starts
some process for showing the systray icon.

What version of the product are you using (wmii -v)? On what operating system?

I got the skype tray to show up using trayer+wistrut as stated in that thread
above,
but i agree that it is probably a pain to have to use some tray utility (and
wistrut)
just to make sure skype gets
stopped completely...
it does get terminated properly if you use the quit button in the menu rather
than
just deleting the client window, and i do not see an option to disable the
tray....
So i agree that this is an issue...but i do not know if it is actually a wmii
issue,
and rather, a problem that skype has no option to disable the tray icon..but
maybe
its an issue that can be worked around by using wmii, im not sure how though
really..

ok that at least fixes the occurrence of the skype systray symbol. but some
issues
still remain:

- wmii does not handle the kde WM_HINTS for tray icons, so that these icons are
not
added to trayer.
- once minimized by double clicking the skype icon, the skype main window
cannot be
restored.

wmii doesn't provide a system tray and doesn't aim to. There are myriad
alternatives,
including the above-mentioned trayer (which conveniently supports setting
struts to
keep it out of the way).

Ah, and the KDE system tray spec is long deprecated. I don't see the need to
provide
special support for it.
