Not sure if you know about this but the pictures explain themselves.

I'm guessing the reason why is in the texture files they are grey also and the game uses color maps to add color to them afterwards.

Ooh, that's a big oversight on my part. I think i can manage to put in a special case to render these. If all else fails, fast item rendering off should work fine in the meanwhile.
