Extrapolation logic, player equality #822

Open espierre31 opened 5 years ago

espierre31 commented 5 years ago

I think the limit has been exceeded. should be 100 instead of 200. This is because more powerful computers are advantageous. With 144 Hz monitor, the response rate of the 60 Hz monitor is not one. "extrapolation " 50 was very badly welcomed, they were right. But the 200 is too much. Especially in international matches, when the ping height is taken into consideration, "extrapolation " is the superiority.

And in which game better computer and monitor does not give you an advantage? We should introduce communism and make everyone playing on shit conditions in a carton under the bridge.

All this crying is ridiculous, "lets make it difficult to play for everyone because we can not reach a certain level", pathetic.

I'm just telling the truth, because even under the circumstances, I am the captain of the last "ESL " champion team.

So you were able to win that tournament but to afford a good pc and monitor is too much for you. Maybe you should think about your life priorities

kingjasko commented 5 years ago

It's interesting to say the least. basro was for the longest time against the fact that extrapolation offers an advantage if you're willing to sacrifice game's smoothness (whatever that is in haxball) and now decides to contradict himself and limit it after weeks of feedback and comments from myself and others, but a few guys complain about the limit and it's back to how it was?

Well, anyways... I don't think extrapolation should exist, it was just the cheapest and easiest way to "fix" input lag, which was brought in by the graphical update of resolution scaling, which was before similar to how flash was - blurry when zooming in and it worked just fine in terms of game performance.

Instead of going forward and having a smooth, lag-free gameplay where everyone can have fun and enjoy the game and the competitive nature of it, the community is now once again divided by something stupid, because one incompetent, unambitious (sorry basro, but it's true) developer can't make up his mind...

And I repeat, it's a 2D game that should be working on any pc/laptop, heck I can even make it "work" on my phone, so why is it so hard to make it work normal for everyone? Why do we need something so random and unstable as extrapolation in the game in the first place?

Anyway, I'm wasting my time since nothing will ever change in this game.

espierre31 commented 5 years ago

I don't need any hardware help to succeed in the game. But that doesn't mean I won't tell the truth. I think it should be a little more fair for the other players.

polackangry commented 5 years ago

And what about the players who can afford better equipment and wants better conditions?

I repeat the question in which game better computer and monitor do not give advantage. Maybe basro should also forbid to play on a mechanical keyboard...

btw. who are you to tell whats normal jasko and better for everyone?

I will play on 240fps and 140 extra, and yes, it will give me adventage, get over it.

kingjasko commented 5 years ago

All I'm saying is, you wouldn't need extrapolation if the game worked nicely out of the box. I'm fine with people having better setup to increase the performance in games, I never said anything about that.

I have a high end PC and Haxball works like a potato, that shouldn't be happening, when I can run any other modern game on high/ultra settings, should it now?

Its not better computer performance, its literally a FORCED CRUTCH. Even on a top computer it will be shaky using more than 50 extrapolation, but because it gives an advantage, I AM FORCED TO PLAY A SHAKY GAME, OR FORCED TO BE AT A DISADVANTAGE.

This is obviously an absolutely ridiculous situation to have in a game. And the fix is SIMPLE, adding a 50 limit.

Check the FM thread, PLENTY of players who are using more than 50 extrapolation, WELCOMED THE LIMIT. Why? Because they're sick of being forced to use more extrapolation to keep competitive, not because their computers are bad and they want communism.

Putting the limit at 50, we once again have an even playing field without having to deal with horrible shakiness to keep up with everybody else. What argument are you guys who want no limit putting forward? Because so far all I've seen is insults and emotional outbursts.

'Input Delay' - You don't need more than 50 extra to fix that. 'Better computers more advantage' - Any computer with 50+ extrapolation will have shakiness, so its not people with crap computers that have this problem of either BEING AT A DISADVANTAGE or PUTTING UP WITH SHAKINESS, a lose-lose situation which can be fixed with 50 limit.

The rest is just insults and knee-jerk outbursts.

You guys are very weird. For me, extrapolation fucks the game up and makes my character move way too straight. It may be useful for obstacle courses only. The fact that you guys want a higher limit for something that fucks the game up is a proof that YOU are the ones using it as an advantage.

bartakabstina commented 5 years ago

because one incompetent, unambitious (sorry basro, but it's true) developer can't make up his mind...

If you think you are so much cooler, then make your own version of HaxBall. A mobile version could be useful.

+1. we can argue that extrapolation does not have anything to do with players' gameplay, instead it makes the game faster in exchange of smoothness but no, it really has something to do with the gameplay . as I said, it makes the game more laggy 4u and 4 everyone who's watching ur "doll". I use 200ext since it was released and well, I can't say that I'll be happy with the limit being 100, but it'll make the game more competitive. 200ext makes doubles look easy, makes ur doll look ultra shaky for the others, and helps u to see the game "faster" (as I said) in exchange of some "visual lag" (smoothness). Extrapolation can, and it does, give the person who uses it at higher levels (150++) advantages in the game. well, these are my thoughts about ext, basro should really fix it and set a lower limit or the game will die on some regions.
