Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. SMS message received with subject with or without message body

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect to see subject line and message body when opening message. instead
only see message body and not subject line. Most SMS I receive are
subject line only so it appears to be an empty message.

What build are you using?
5.0.1Gr2

Do you have apps-on-sd?
Yes

What radio?
Sapphire

Did you wipe after flashing (yes if you are on an auto-wipe build)?
Yes

Please provide any additional information below.
thanks for consideration.

SMS Messaging doesn't support Subjects - are you talking about MMS?

They really are SMS messages that get sent from my work GFI netmon server.

So - they are traversing an email to SMS gateway?

SMS supports only 160 7-Bit characters. There is no part of the protocol that
allows
an SMSC to flag a section of that message as the "subject".

I assume you are using an email to SMS gateway - and for some reason the
gateway you
are using is not delivering the Subject and Content to you as an SMS message.
This is
something you will need to raise with your carrier or gateway service.

thanks for at least considering this as an issue for your great builds.

I have been with the same carrier (tmo) for many years (since their inception)
and
never had this problem with any other PDA; nor do I have the problem with other
Android builds.

No problem, bro - I just flashed back to the developer phone build because
these
pages/alerts are part of my job.

Regards!

I am intrigued then. Can you explain a little more about how the messages are
sent?
And give some examples.
If you use something like "chompSMS" to display the messages, how do they
display in
that?

hi - you are absolutely correct - I found out that the GFI sys admin was not
sending
true SMS to my phone (we don't have an SMS carrier at work), but sending email
to
713xxxxxxxx@tmomail.net!

I've been using the native messaging app that comes with each build. I guess
they
interpret these psuedo-sms as email thus showing a subject and message.

I've managed a workaround though on my end by changing the format of the GFI
email
so it sends a message in the body now, so I can use your cool G build!!

Kudos to you!
