We could use a little more information here. What build are you on at least?
Have you
tried holding it? Pressing it has *never* done anything for me, it has to be
held for
like 4 seconds.

This has been noticed and will be solved in later builds. At the moment, it is
not
priority.

As note above, the hardware camera didn't work to activate the camera
application.
Once camera app is launched, you can use the trackball to snap photo. (I
actually
prefer using trackball, much easier to hold phone steady.

This is not really a fault. The H build is designed for the sapphire/Magic
which has
no camera button. Just use the trackball as stated.

camera button when pressed from home screen causes force close error on HTC
5.0.2 build.

Just a note... on the H version if you launch the camera and take your first
picture
with the trackball you can then use camera button for pictures following that.
It's
quite nice because you can half hold to get a focus then do a full press and
get a
"quick" picture with very little blur!

It would be nice if you could just use the camera button the first time... I
don't
care if it launches the program or not.

@alancece: same experience here, and I think it's alright for now.

As noted above this is not a defect, this is because it was designed for the
Sapphire/Magic, which does not have the camera button. If you would like to
install
the "G1" camera app back on the phone, which has less features see this post.

I recommend closing this issue.
