An update from scottxray2001 on [stark-labs-astronomy-software]:
I was having a problem with PHD2 in that the camera gain from the SSAG seemed
to be limited to about 1/5 the gain of PHD.
I had initially installed the 1.14.2 version and the alpha of PHD2.
Recently, I installed the Beta and deinstalled the alpha. In both
of the PHD2 versions the guide stars were extremely dim and harder to use, to
the point that I had to drop back to PHD 1. Trying to figure this out while
trying to image also was not in the cards , as PHd1 was working. However, the
more advanced features of PhD2 were highly desired.
Today I took an M42 lens adapter and mounted a 50mm lens on the SSAG. The same
result occurred, PHD 2 guide images required 4-5 times the time setting to get
the same general screen brightness. This seemed to be a problem with camera
gain. However, since it was easy to test things I found a solution, and now get
normal gain from the SSAG in PhD2. This problem may only occur to those that
installed version 1.14.2 of Phd and one of the Alphas.
Once PHD2 is open and running do not connect to the camera or scope. Simply
click on the Brain and open the Global settings. Then Check the reset
configuration box, and click on the Ok box below. That's it! Gain seems to be
the same in Phd 1 and 2. Apparently some corruption of the settings must have
occurred at some point and the settings stick until you clear them.
I am looking forward to using Phd2 for my next session. Hopefully this will
help anyone else that may have had the same issue.

Another Followup message from Scott:
I was able to overcome the problem with the SSAG gain by using the Reset
configuration check box in the
brain (global) setup, and clicking the OK box. Apparently some value from
the install was not being set properly
even if the install was just completed. After clicking the reset box and
restarting PHD2 the camera gain for the SSAG
seems to work properly and now seems to be nearly the same in PHD 1 and 2.
Since I had previously installed an alpha version without the windows installer
and the 1.14.2 version, perhaps
there was some value transferred over to the new program? I also tried to
deinstall the Alpha (with no change to camera
gains) first.
So, with a fresh install, it might be best to select this global reset as a
general rule of thumb to make sure no garbage
is affecting things before trying any guiding.
