Interesting. I do not have an explanation, but if there sometimes is this variation on the image level, we could go back to the median of image-level scores.. (maybe taking into account the number of cells per image)
Interesting idea. Here is a screenshot of the whole well. Not sure, could be a cell density effect...
this could be some sort of staining artefact, for example if the well was not properly overlayed by the serum solution... I hope this does not happen often... I will keep my eyes open for things like this when inspecting images

I looked more at the C1 well in plate K25 and found this strange behaviour. Both images are in the same well. In the left one the infected cells are much brighter in the serum channel than in the right image. Any idea why this could be? Maybe they are in some way too dense in the right image?
