Polished hackathon results for presentation at Harvard "Climatea" in 2020

This Pull Request represents a major overhaul of the initial analysis workflow developed as part of the 2019 CMIP6 Hackathon at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, which was motivated by me signing up to present some of this work at a Harvard Climatea in April 2020.

The major changes were:

• Separating pre-processing from analysis/plotting notebooks
• Extending the pre-processing to other climate metrics of interest that just Mean Absolute Error, e.g. Pearson correlation and climate variability indices such as ENSO3.4
• Reformatting locally-saved interim (now renamed intermediate) data files for more convenient post-processing
• Polishing the presentation of key plots

After almost three years of no progress, @amvaruolo-clarke and I have rebooted this project.
