ChiVes harmonizes & standardizes environmental data across dozens of sources to make it accessible for full exploration, alongside a growing list of resources on the Chicago Environment, cultivated by a community of curators.
Through @bodom0015's creation of the Index Builder, we've identified a few more pieces of meta-information we need to attach to each data variable in order to properly use it in the custom index. I'm summarizing these here in this ticket, so we can finalize their meanings and behavior. I'm also suggesting new names for these to make them a little more logically grouped in the overall data variables sheet.
ibEnabled - This field defines whether or not a variable will be available in the custom Index Builder.
Options: TRUE / FALSE
ibDefaultDirectionality - This field determines whether a variable's value affects the overall index positively or negatively.
Options: -1 / 1
Needs to be renamed, current name is scaling
ibIgnoreZero - This field determines whether values of 0 in this variable should be ignored in the index creation.
Options: TRUE / FALSE
Needs to be renamed, current name is ignore_0
ibExplanation (for consideration) - This is a short text description that explains why a given variable behaves as it does within a custom index.
I have brought this idea up before, but now we're thinking it may not be needed, in that all we really need is an explainer of directionality per variable, and this can be keyed directly off of the ibDefaultDirectionality property.
We can close this ticket once we have, in consultation with the DePaul team
[x] set ibEnabled for all variables
[x] set ibDefaultDirectionality for all variables
[x] set ibIgnoreZero for all variables
[ ] decided on whether we need ibExplanation or if this can be handled in a different way
