Ad timer manually #210

Could you allow us to set Ad-intervals ourselves? Currently, ads get random repeat between 10 and 18 min I think. And it happens shockingly often, that it is actually 16-18min.

Just let us choose the intervals ourselves. There is a reason why ads are allowed every 10min on most channels. Why wait 18min. For example, I would like to set the timer between 10-11min for myself. Others might be fine with 15-18min. But not everyone likes this. Then, I read/heard, that there are channels where ads are only allowed every 30min or even 1h. So, a manually configurable ad timer would be perfect for everyone, instead of the current forced one, where we don't have any influence on.

I made the same thread ,but before I got the chance to respond, my thread was locked. The Dev said that I should ask the room owner to write something in the room description? It's an unreasonable request. Most people are in multiple rooms at once, and most of those rooms have 1000s of people in them. The room owner won't even respond to a request like that. It's unreasonable to expect that to be the only way for this to be done.

For real, that's just asking for trouble from the kind of people who have a enough of a stick up their ass about ads to implement a 30 minute rule in their rooms.

And to reiterate the other reason I wanted it from my own thread (which had the same happen to it), I often find myself using the chat during low-traffic hours at night, and being able to space my ads a bit further apart in slower rooms would be nice so I'm at least not double-posting on the same screen. A setting that would be ideal to change myself, not rely on a room moderator editing their description.

I am more for giving full control to the user, about ad-timers. So, the users can type/choose themselves the intervals they want to post the ad. A minimum can be 10min maybe (but not sure if there are rooms which allow every 5min?). Anyways, it is a bit annoying, that the timer is automatically, and chooses a repeat time from between 10-18 min. Usually it is only the first post being between 10-12min, when it repeats, it is increased to around 15-18min, which is alot of time (if we go by 10min, 15-18min are 150%-180% of the original time. Is there actually even a reason why the intervals are set so high? And why are they unchangeable and automatically set in the first place?)

Example: I would like to be able to tell the Fchat Rsing client, that I want my ad to repeat every 10-11 min. Or sometimes, I just want to post every 20-22min, or even every 30-35min. Basically, more control over the ad timer for the users, so, they can manually pick their own ideal min-max values. Is this possible? (in my head it is actually possible and nothing big to ask for. But maybe I am just missing the reason here.). If not, why isn't it possible?

I think the most important function of allowing people to set their own ad intervals have been covered, and they are:

  1. Channel admins are channel admins because they want to control people. It's not because they want to help. They're people who are uncomfortable with other people breathing the same air as them and want to make them as uncomfortable as they are. So they impose arbitrary limits on their activity: A channel admin is not going to set a static ad interval and just leave it that way. Today they're going to arbitrarily tell people they have to space ads out every 30 minutes, then tomorrow it'll be 60. Not because of any need for it, but just because every time they change the interval they get to call out a bunch of people and boss them around, giving them a little endorphin rush each time. It's the same effect as people who get addicted to mobile games or gachas.

  2. When a channel is quiet it doesn't make sense to post ads at the same static interval. This gives chat admins another opportunity to shit on you. They're going to complain that the chat is quiet and you're spamming by re-posting your ads every... it doesn't matter what interval. They're going to complain, the complaints are going to compound, then they're going to ban you.

In addition to @foxmajik, it sometimes can just be the user themselves not wanting to be a dick, while properly advertising their characters. I know I sometimes can die from embarrassment when I see a wall of ads in a quiet room, and they're all mine.

Yep, the channel descriptor fix is nice but it only works when the channel mods are willing to add it, which many are not for reasons other people have already noted. What would be amazing would be the option to manually set ad timers for each room. In particularly low traffic rooms, it can end up being that most of the posts are your auto ads which feels weird and like I'm clogging up the room. Being able to change the timer for rooms like that to 1+ hours would help with that.
