all timing - as it's using counters in the analysis class (i.e.: inside each if statement) - is locked to the framerate.
this doesn't seem right - perhaps we should have the animation on screen locked to actual time, and then the saving (for example) would increase based on increased frame rates - but all of the synthesis functions would just print to screen as before.
