Implement IFTTT Binding #357

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
I don't use IFTT yet.
But it seems like a great service.

I realize it's kind of an alternative to openHAB since it also bundels input
and creates output.
But maybe this could be a bridge to a greater repository of "bindings".

You could create something like:
- "If Temperature above XY then tweet "It's hot!"
- "If new News about XY in Feedly then blink lamp in Bedroom"

I guess there are more usefull usecases. ;)

IFTTT is very web/cloud-centric, so smart homes are not really in their focus
(mainly WeMo/Hue integration). And it is not very reliable for home automation
as it requires internet access.

Nonetheless, an openHAB integration would be nice. Problem is that IFTTT is
currently not really interested in opening IFTTT to Open Source frameworks.
They "pick" their channels in an intransparent way, so you can consider it as a
fenced garden.

yep! That is unfortunately true!

I constantly hit the IFTTT team to integrate with openHAB but without success
so far ...

Probably it's worth to ask at IFTT directly, to let them know that there are
more interested parties than me, Christoph?!
