my logs are full of failed to dial challenger "/p2p/xxxxxxxx": not_found resulting in "failed to send witness, max retry" when I grap the failed address and ping it using heliumstatus, most of the times it's accessible My hotspot is on half gigabit network, not relayed ...

The same here. My guess was, that it is because of my suboptimal location with original antenna still indoors. Im quite new to helium mining. I got a Controllino HS.

I also have a controllino hs, but i'm on a fairly optimal area, with transmit scale 1,00 and I have an outdoor antenna with 4dBi and 5m of LMR-400 cable. My latency is between 35-45ms... and I still have same issue...

Half of the witnessing ends up in " failed to send witness, max retry" While the challenger is online and ping is fine. Is Helium trying to save up a little? If most of people could see their logs they will understand the scale of it. In brief, if you see your hotspot creating a challenge, but end up in not challenging anyone, this is due to "failed to send witness, max retry" issue ...

Exactly the same issue. 5.8dBi RAK outdoor antenna, gig Ethernet symmetrical fiber connection to the internet, this is a quality install. And the miner was operating just fine with daily earnings ~.25-.35HNT. I am struggling to now get a single witness or two a day and currently barely breaking .02HNT in 24 hours.

This looks like a widescale problem. Can someone at helium figure out the issue?!? This is on a Milesight UG65 for what it's worth, but looks like it's not limited to any particular miner. We need this bug looked into ASAP!

not really, from the observation, if my miner fails to send the beacon report to the challanger, in most of the cases, the challanger doesn't receive anything from anyone and the challenge stays unchallanged ..

I have been using 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 and that didn't work.... I tried using my gateway as my DNS server (which works fine for my machines on the network) and 8.8.8.8 as a secondary - that didn't work either. Nothing has seemed to solve this. Willing to try anything at this point. What about "use peer DNS"? :)

I have noticeably reduced the number of failed witnesses by increasing the max_inbound_connections and outbound_gossip_connections in the docker's sys.config. For example:

docker exec -it miner sh
vi config/sys.config

I changed

   {max_inbound_connections, 6},                                                                                                                                          
   {outbound_gossip_connections, 2}, 

to something like

   {max_inbound_connections, 20},                                                                                                                                          
   {outbound_gossip_connections, 10}, 

Then restarted the docker:

docker stop miner && docker start miner

I've been plotting the ratio of successfully sent witness entries to failed witness entries (i.e. 'max_retry') from console.log per hour. There is a noticeable drop in failed witnesses when I implemented this change. You can probably guess when I implemented it from these plots:

I presume that this is going to drastically increase my network traffic, but I've got an excellent internet connection, so I'm okay with that if I get more witnesses through.

Someone else has confirmed they also saw improvement with modifying these values in issue #1407

Guess you could enable ssh on any miner that has removable memory. It was easy to do on my SenseCap...

testing in progress... saturday stats are 3 witnessed beacons, all of them a 2nd time send success (1st try was "failed to dial challenger"). despite of success, not participate in the lucky 14 😕 but that's just 2 hours. we'll see... The average witnesses at the neighbours are 20-25/day; I have max 6 witnesses with pisces hotspot

Hi, I had the same problems with Controllino V1, "failed to send witness, max retry" and "Miner: 5 / 5 pings succeeded Blockchain: 0 / 5 pings succeeded". I don't know what the reasons were, but everything miraculously fixed as soon as i changed my internet provider.

If you have a 5.8dbi antenna, try to bring it down to 5.6dbi on your miner if it allows it. I was having the same issue and when I dropped the gain I am now getting over 80% successful witnesses.

I have an 8.8dbi antenna that was giving me the same issue. I dropped it down to 8.6 and BINGO, I started getting successful witnesses.

@siberiatrix I'm sorry it took a while to get back to you. Please make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your hotspot. If you have modified the configuration file, you might not be getting the latest updates automatically. Please reach out to the manufacturer of your hotspot to reset it to its default OEM settings.
