Hi David, Thanks for your post here, about Brave Sync. I am still having trouble with my sync. I realize that you are not asserting any affiliation with Brave Support. However, I found your language and presentation to be quite comfortable to my "curious & clever n00b" brain. I also do not have lofty expectations around my message here. I am seeking some insight if you're willing & able to share some of your time.

So I followed your steps for differentiating any sync settings that may not be correct, at least to my eye. I didn't yet get into the internals that you pointed out. I can see that my bookmarks, over time, have gotten quite janky in unintentional duplications (on my mobile device there are listed 33K+ :? ). I've added a new computer to my sync chain, with the appropriate word cluster and nevertheless do not see this new device listed when I double-check it with my mobile or main PC.

I presume that it's a decent idea to leave the chain, on the new PC, then restart Brave and re-enter the sync phrase. I am trying this today. If you have any other suggestions I am interested in hearing them. Thanks for your time and consideration. Have a great holiday season, in any case.

Cheers, Scott

Hi again David,

Brief update. I did happen to get a lot out of checking the internals page. Most of what I saw is bewilderingly arcane to me. However, I did note that there was an error message "NET:: ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID" which was returned in the Sync Protocol Log. Still not certain though, but it just stood out as a likely culprit, and seemed to be what sync was hung up on. I searched around a bit more and learned that it is often encountered on public networks—I was on the guest network at work. So I hotspotted my phone and suddenly the internals page transformed into a flurry of activity. I pushed the Sync request via a button on the page and started seeing things change in the Type Info output list. I compared this list to the one on my mobile device and the params matched my sync data preferences. I still don't actually ken what's happening, in all it's depth, but it does look like sync has returned to a functioning state on a secure network. The thing I didn't try was routing through my ExpressVPN. Maybe next time... Anyway, thanks again for your article, David. It seemed to kick me in the right direction to resolve this sync discrepancy.

More Cheers, Scott

oh wow! I can't tell you how pleased I am you wrote this article and I stumbled onto it. It was a last chance saloon, hope against hope search before I ditched Brave due to passwords not syncing to my phone. I could just about put up with it day to day when I have ready access to a PC, but was planning to ditch Brave 'cause I couldn't get by like that for an upcoming trip.

When I first started using Brave I saw a pretty current post that stated password syncing to mobile devices wasn't supported yet. It may have been wrong, IDK, but I had accepted it as correct at the time, and hoped that Brave would support it in the near future.

Now, after checking the Data Preferences option like you pointed out, I find it's working rather nicely.

Many thanks. You've saved me a lot of unnecessary bother.
